A 31-year-old father has been identified as the worker who died in an accident in Sydney's west on Monday.

At around 6.30am on Monday, emergency services were called to a worksite at St Mary's following reports of a serious accident.

At the scene, emergency workers found a man had died at the scene.

The worker has now been identified by 7News as Tuaese Taufa, a 31-year-old husband and father who one of his co-workers described as a "good fella".

"He's like a son to me," a tearful Maea Folau told 7News.

On social media friends of Mr Taufa paid tribute to the father, with many expressing their shock and condolences.

"You were a humble, loving and kind person to all," one person said in a tribute on Facebook.

"You will be missed by your wife, children and the rest of the family, though you have gained your angel wings."

Following the accident on Monday, workers were sent home in shock, while paramedics at the scene praised Mr Taufa's colleagues who tried to help him, 7News reported.

Aerial shots show a forklift lying on its side at the St Mary's workplace. The machinery reportedly weighed four tonnes.

NSW Police confirmed on Monday a report would be prepared for the coroner.

SafeWork NSW will be investigating the incident.

"SafeWork is investigating a forklift incident this morning at a workplace in St Marys," a SafeWork NSW spokesperson said.

"The investigation is ongoing and further comment is not available at this time."
