Sydney gangster 'killed in Greece shooting' after ambush

Sydney nightclub identity John Macris has reportedly been gunned down in Greece.

Macris has been named by Greek and Australian media as the victim of a fatal shooting in Voula, a suburb of Athens, on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old was reportedly ambushed and shot multiple times while exiting his car on the winding cliff-side road to his home.

Greek media described him as a wealthy man, known to police in both Greece and Australia, with the nickname the “Australo”.

Members of the Ibrahim family were in 2012 cleared of conspiring to kill Macris, who was believed by some to be linked to the shooting of Fadi Ibrahim.

Macris was previously a business partner of former Kings Cross nightclub owner John Ibrahim but the pair had a falling out in 2007.

News Corp reports Macris once dated PR queen and Sydney socialite Roxy Jacenko but has been living with his girlfriend Viktoria Karida, a former Playboy model, for the last seven years. The pair share a child.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was aware of the incident and was ready to offer consular assistance to any Australian citizens or their families.
