Sunrise's Sam Mac sledges host David Koch over his salary

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has taken a hilarious swipe at the breakfast program's host David 'Kochie' Koch during a segment.

Sam was presenting the weather to viewers from the top-secret ABC gold refinery in Sydney, asking about the total worth of the gold bars sitting on tables behind him.

When he was informed it was worth $30 million, Sam didn't hesitate to take the opportunity to have a little jab at Kochie.

"So next time Kochie signs off on his annual salary, this is what they bring into the boardroom," he said.

"This is it. They literally wheel it in and he's like, 'Yeah, I'll do two more years'.

"That's how it works guys."

Back in the studio, Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta could barely contain his laughter.

Earlier in the segment, Sam also had a dig at Sunrise host Natalie Barr as she introduced the top-secret refinery.

"They deal with some really, really, really expensive stuff," she said, as Sam responded, "Thanks for making this happen".

"You knew someone, who knew someone, I mean, the circles that you mix in, I can only dream of sitting at those tables," he added, as Nat laughed and screwed her face up.

Kochie was not on the Sunrise desk to defend himself during the Thursday morning segment, as he announced he would be taking three weeks off to attend his youngest daughter's wedding in London.

He took off to the UK last week after explaining he had never met the parents of his son-in-law, but they would all be staying in the same house in the lead-up to the wedding.

“It’ll either be Father Of The Bride or Nightmare On Elm Street," he joked.

"It will be a bit of fun."
