Southampton host Tottenham Hotspur at St. Mary’s where both clubs will be desperate for a win after they each suffered agonising defeats to open their league campaigns.

The Saints will have to rely on Danny Ings to lead the attack after losing Nathan Redmond to injury in the League Cup loss to Brentford.

Jose Mourinho will hope Spurs can improve on their recent performances, with the North Londoners seemingly needing a Lokomotiv Plovdiv red card to top their mid-week opponents.

Both sides will feel like they can win this game, so it could become rather open as they each look to kick start their Premier League season.

Here’s everything you need to know:

When is it?

The fixture will kick-off at 12pm BST at St. Mary’s Stadium.

How can I watch it?

The match will be televised on BT Sport 1, where coverage will begin from 11:30am.

What is the team news?

Southampton could see Stuart Armstrong return from a thigh injury, but Nathan Redmond is out with an ankle injury sustained in the League Cup defeat to Brentford.

Tottenham will likely start both new signings, Matt Doherty and former-Saint Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, on Sunday despite both playing in the Europa League. Japhet Tanganga is out with a hamstring injury whilst Serge Aurier is struggling for match fitness.

Predicted line-ups

Southampton: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Stephens, Armstrong, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo, Adams, Ings

Tottenham: Lloris, Doherty, Alderwield, Davies, Højbjerg, Ndombele, Lucas, Bergwijn, Son, Kane

Odds

Southampton: 9/4

Draw: 12/5

Tottenham: 11/8

Prediction

Tottenham are the stronger team on paper, but their performances to open the campaign have been far from encouraging – even with their midweek win. They were uninspiring against Everton, but Southampton are hardly in better form. This could be a tight game, with a single goal separating them. I think Spurs have the defenders to deal with Danny Ings, and I can’t see where another goal could come from the home side. 1-0 Tottenham.
