Sisters battling cancer on opposite sides of world vow to see each other again

Two sisters battling breast cancer on opposite sides of the planet have vowed to overcome the disease and see each other again.

Roisin and Lindsey live 17,000 km apart, but they are using their joint struggle to encourage other women to undergo regular health checks.

In the UK, 36-year-old Roisin Pelan was diagnosed with breast cancer in January – the second time in four years.

It prompted older sister Lindsey, who lives in the Melbourne suburb of Frankston, to get herself checked.

A mammogram revealed nothing, but then an ultrasound detected a small speck.

They are now both undergoing chemotherapy sessions and draw strength from each other during daily Skype calls.

From opposite sides of the globe, their mission is to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

Neither sister can travel until they get the all-clear from their doctors, but if all goes to plan they hope to be reunited by the end of the year.

“We’ll probably embrace, then have a champagne, definitely,” Lindsey said.
