Shop attendant robbed while sleeping on the job

A shop attendant’s store has been robbed while he slept on the job.

The customer came back three times and was even handed a freebie when the attendant finally woke up.

Surveillance video shows the attendant appearing tired during his shift, before heading out the back to sleep.

An apparent customer is then seen in the footage wandering behind the counter and helping himself to the till.

“It appears, at this stage that it was an opportunistic crime,” said Acting Sydney City Crime Manager, David Gates.

The man wasn’t about to waste the opportunity, returning two minutes later to take the safe.

All up he walked away with $800.

The man then returned, but the attendant had woken up.

The attendant scans his water bottle, before realising he doesn’t have any change because the till is missing.

The robber walks away with a free drink.

“It’s strange footage for sure, but I think the important thing is, anyone that may recognise the male that’s in the footage to contact police,” said David Gates.

The robber stole the scissors from the shop to cut the cords of the till before stealing it.

The store has been dusted for finger prints.

“I feel very sorry for that guy, he might lose his job,” a co-worker told 7News.

Police have urged members of the public to contact them if they recognise the man.
