Single mum's incredible act after couple leave her $1000 tip

A struggling single mother, who was left an incredible US$1000 tip at her bartending job, has stunned her local community with her decision on how to spend the money.

Anna Hofstetter, a mum-of-three who works three jobs to support her family, was left the generous tip by a couple at the bar where she works in Nashville, Indiana.

“They sat at a little table near the door and they said they got married at the Hotel Nashville seven years ago,” she told Fox59 News.

Ms Hofstetter struck up a conversation while serving the couple and at the end of their meal, was shocked to find an extra $1000 attached to the couple’s US$32.40 bill.

There was also a note at the bottom of the receipt reading: ‘Give something for kids’.

“I said, ‘thank you so much’. You have no idea how much this means to me,” she said.

Instead of going shopping or spending the money on a family holiday, Ms Hofstetter made the selfless decision to give it all back to the community.

She presented the money to Kids on Wheels, a group of youths raising money to build a teen’s skate park and safe space in the neighbourhood.

Clara Stanley, the president of Brown County Enrichment for Teens Association Inc., said the donation is going towards a much-needed cause for the town’s youth.

“Brown County has been lacking a healthy, wonderful place for children,” Ms Stanely told the news outlet.

“I know Anna is doing a lot of working hours, single mom. $1,000 is big money.”

Kids on Wheels are aiming to raise $50,000 by September 22 in order to have their funds matched by a grant from the state.
