Shoplifter killed by passing car after being Tasered by police outside store
A police officer is being investigated after he Tasered an alleged shoplifter who was then hit by a car and killed.
The officer, 37, was investigating a shoplifting incident at a Walmart in Mount Vernon, Washington, on Wednesday about 8.25pm, according to a police statement.
The 37-year-old was given a description of the alleged shoplifter carrying a plastic shopping bag.
The officer approached a man fitting the description to speak with him but the man fled on foot.
He ran across the road and the officer deployed a Taser causing the alleged shoplifter to fall.
A car then ran over him killing him at the scene.

The Taser was department-issued and the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
An investigation is ongoing.
