Shocking video of Aussie girl getting hit by bus while jaywalking with woman

Online viewers criticised the pair, calling them 'absolute morons'.

WARNING — GRAPHIC CONTENT: Dashcam footage has captured the heart-stopping moment a bus slammed into a young girl as she and a woman — presumed to be her mum — darted across a busy Perth highway.

The schoolgirl was sent flying into the air and tumbled along the bitumen as the pair attempted to jaywalk across the four-lane Great Eastern Highway, near the Kooyong Road intersection.

The bus just about to hit the young girl as the woman watches on in horror in middle of road.

The video, which was recorded on Monday and later posted to Reddit, shows cars coming to a stop at a red light just outside a shopping centre before the pair suddenly appear from the right.

The woman runs in front of the camera before coming to a halt and throwing her arm out in front of the girl, who is carrying a reusable grocery bag. Despite the adult’s attempt to pull her back, the schoolgirl enters the turning lane and is immediately hit by the city bus, prompting the driver to slam on the brakes.

The girl rolls along the road before miraculously standing back up as the woman checks on her. The pair then wave an apology to the bus driver before fleeing onto the path.

'Reminder of why jaywalking is illegal'

The Reddit user who posted the clip said it was “yet another reminder of why jaywalking is illegal in Australia”. In Perth, it is merely a $50 fine.

Viewers have shared their horror over the footage, with one believing they “had just watched someone die”. “Really hope that kid was taken to the hospital for a check-up,” another said, while a third labelled the pair “absolute morons”.

Numerous other social media users said they felt bad for the bus driver and passengers on board. “Can only imagine what it was like on that bus, casually going to the shops or meeting with friends, then BOOM, grade 3 concussion,” one person wrote.
