Wild brawl breaks out during first birthday party at Indian restaurant

An Indian restaurant in Adelaide's north was the scene of a wild brawl that left partygoers cowering under tables.

Around 50 guests were celebrating a first birthday when Chennai Palace was stormed by gatecrashers on a rampage at about 8pm on Thursday evening.

The restaurant's manager was struck with broken glass while trying to break up a fight in his packed venue.

Witnesses say four men stormed the birthday dinner and lashed out at partygoers on the dance floor.

"The bunch of people started hitting these people who were inside the party. Then they started fighting each other, throwing bottles, the chairs, everything," the restaurant's owner recalled.

Terrified patrons hid under tables and remarkably none of the children inside the venue were harmed.

"I was scared to death, I had to rush to get the kids out of the place, then we rang the police and ambulance," one customer said.

The damage caused to the restaurant has forced the owners to cancel tonight's 'Bollywood' functions, costing them thousands of dollars in revenue.

Police are investigating the incident and believe the attackers and victims are known to each other.
