'Childish': Fans slam royals' Meghan 'snub' on Harry's birthday

The royal family has wished Prince Harry a happy 36th birthday, but it seems the well-wishes have not been extended to his wife Meghan Markle.

Harry and Meghan are celebrating the Duke of Sussex’s big day from their new home in Los Angeles where they relocated after their sensational split from the family and their duties as senior royals.

His family back home has shared public social media posts wishing him a very happy birthday, though Meghan is nowhere to be seen in any of them.

No Meghan to be seen in royal birthday wishes

Kate and Wills shared an iconic shot of a race ran between Harry and the couple during a visit in February 2017 to London’s Olympic Park, before he and Meghan announced their engagement and she became a part of royal life.

“Wishing a very happy birthday to Prince Harry today!” the photo was captioned.

Comments on the post showed that the photo elicited the kind of anti-Meghan sentiment that was a big part of the couple’s decision to leave the UK, many referring to the photo as ‘the good old days’.

Similarly, the official royal family Twitter account shared an image of Harry smiling at the Queen with no Meghan, and Harry’s father Prince Charles and Camilla also neglected to include the former actress in their tribute.

Online, royal watchers noticed the exclusion immediately, though while some claimed it was a deliberate exclusion most did not agree, slamming not the family for the snub, but the idea that there was a snub at all.

“How rude. Why not have a photo of him when he's happy with his lovely wife. Really selfish of Will and Kate,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“The shade of them using this pic rather than one including his wife,” another agreed.

Dozens rushed to remind everyone that it is normal to leave spouses out of birthday posts, pointing to the tributes to Meghan on her birthday last month as proof.

“Same reason there was no Harry in Meghan’s birthday wish,” one pointed out. “Birthdays aren’t shared after marriage.”

“This is so childish,” another agreed. “Why on earth would they choose a pic of him with Meghan on his bday?! You choose pics of you with the birthday person.”

Royal blogger Gert’s Royals summed up the reaction in a neat observation on Twiter.

“It’s not rude. Neither [Clarence House nor [The Royal Family] chose a photo with Meghan in it either,” they wrote. “And none chose a photo of Harry with Meghan for Meghan’s birthday. & looking back at the other Royal Birthday tweets this year, most did not include the spouse in the photo.”
