'Ripped off': Woolworths shoppers hit out at Ooshies problem

Woolworths has responded to angry customers who are disappointed over difficulties in getting their hands on Ooshies due to a shortage in some stores.

Shoppers from across the country have taken their complaints online this week, criticising the retailer for its lack of supply and the disappointment it has caused their children.

One woman claimed she was told at the Matraville store, in Sydney’s east, on Wednesday that she could take her receipt to the South Maroubra store to claim the five Ooshies she missed out on.

After doing so however, she claimed to be told at the South Maroubra store that they would not give her the Ooshies, and she should instead call the Matraville store daily to check on its supply.

The shopper said the experience left her son “upset”, and she still hadn’t been able to get her Ooshies by Thursday.

A customer at the Renmark store in South Australia reported a similar problem on Thursday, complaining she earned 15 Ooshies, but wasn’t able to claim any due to there being no stock.

She said a friend who ordered groceries online from the same store had received Ooshies when their order was delivered later on, which left her considerably perplexed.

Someone else said they had received an online delivery but not the Ooshies they had earned, which left her wondering why, still weeks out from the end of the promotion, there was such little stock.

“If it is supposed to finish on 20th October you would assume there would be enough stock till nearer that date,” she said.

Someone else was disappointed the Caloundra store, in southeast Queensland, seemed to also have run out of Ooshies, with the shopper missing out on the 16 she earned with her online order.

A South Australian customer said she had planned her shop around collecting as many Ooshies as possible, but ended up going home empty handed due to the same issue.

“I could have saved money by selecting cheaper products but paid the extra on a different brand to get these darn things for my nieces and nephews. I am absolutely feeling ripped off,” she wrote.

A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia that not all stores had been affected by shortages, and more stock was expected to arrive in coming days.

“We're thrilled Woolworths customers are enjoying our Disney+ Ooshies and we've seen enormous demand across the country since we launched the program,” they said.

"Some stores have seen spikes in redemption over the last few days and we are working to replenish their stock in the days ahead.”

Shoppers have been encouraged to check at the service desk before shopping to confirm whether they will be able to collect Ooshies due to stock varying store-to-store.
