Real estate agent's six-hour shopping spree after robbing tenant

A real estate agent has admitted to stealing from a tenant who trusted her with an open house at his unit.

Kally Fitzgerald swiped a credit card before going on a shopping spree costing thousands.

The tenant went for a jog while Ms Fitzgerald let buyers walk through his unit in Dee Why in Sydney’s north last October.

The 38-year-old dug through his drawers to find his wallet, taking his credit card to fund a six-hour spending splurge at his expense.

She started off with an $85 manicure just after 1.30pm.

Then she went to the chemist and made three transactions totalling $240.

A few minutes later she spent $50 on clothing before making 15 tap-and-go transactions at a homewares store worth $1550.

Next, she spent $484 at a dress shop before spending $746 on David Jones gift cards from Woolworths.

The spending spree ended at 8pm.

Ms Fitzgerald tried to explain to the court her actions that afternoon were a result of her going cold turkey on several serious addictions.

She had recently found out she was pregnant and had stopped drinking alcohol excessively and relying on pain medication.

She asked the court not to treat her as a criminal but as somebody suffering mental health issues, but her application to have the charges dismissed under Section 32 of the Mental Health Act was rejected.

Magistrate Christopher Longley sentenced Ms Fitzgerald to a 12-month community corrections order to be of good behaviour and ordered her to abstain from alcohol for 12 months.
