Christmas hamper company under fire after delayed deliveries
Aussie battlers who have put money aside throughout the year for Christmas costs say an online gift company has let them down.
Hamper King offers payment plans for families who are trying to save for a Christmas hamper.
But the company says high demand has delayed deliveries and they have been forced to apologise to their customers.
Tania Butler is just one customer who anxiously waited for a special Christmas delivery for her seven children.
"I want to know why it's taking so long, why their staff is hanging up and refusing to speak with their customers," she said.
Tania ordered a shopping card worth $1000, but 26 fortnightly payments later, her delivery still hadn't arrived and she was beginning to worry if it ever would.
Hamper King promised the deliveries by last week, but customers reported that they had been unable to track the delivery with Australia Post.
Customers have taken to social media to express their anger, with a Facebook page being set up to receive complaints.
"The page we started last night, so not even 24 hours, and there's hundreds of people, thousands of people commenting, panicking about their money," Hamper King customer Renee McKinnon said.
Hamper King's general manager has insisted the tracking numbers issued are valid, but has apologised to customers.
"I'm expecting that everyone will receive their cards in the next few days and hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas," David White said.
Late on Tuesday, Tania Butler's card finally arrived, but many long-term customers say this will be their last Christmas with Hamper King.
"I won't be buying from them again," customer Rose-Marie Hamlin said.
