Man allegedly behind 'beer burglary' hands himself into police after keg smashed into pub

A man allegedly behind a bizarre break-in at a Gold Coast has handed himself into police after CCTV of the incident went viral.

A thirsty Queenslander was caught on camera armed with a beer keg in a strange incident at a pub.

Howl at the Moon was closed at 3.30am on Thursday but the man was not ready to call it a night.

Security cameras were rolling when he tried to hurl an empty beer keg through the back door.

The person in the footage failed. Twice.

On the third attempt, he succeeded in making a keg sized hole and proceeded with his plan.

He tried to enter feet-first until he realised that was probably not going to work.

Next, he tried head-first and squeezed his way through the hole, lit cigarette in hand, performing a near perfect handstand.

The man had not realised he had already busted the door frame and could have walked straight in.

Howl at the Moon owner Mario Zulli struggled to take the incident seriously.

“Ah yeah, it’s too funny to actually think seriously about,” he said.

At least the man closes the door behind him, the camera shows, and then he just has a look around.

“Because it’s 3.30 have we broke lock out laws,” Mr Zulli joked.

Perhaps the most bizarre thing of all, after standing at the bar for a little while, he just leaves with his cigarette but nothing else, minus a few arm hairs he left on the door.

Mr Zulli said even the police investigating the break-in couldn’t contain themselves when they saw the footage.

“They laughed, they laughed quite a lot and took videos themselves,” he said.

But Mr Zulli said as long as the offender paid to fix the door, Howl at the Moon does not mind if he comes back, just as long as they are open this time.
