Pregnant woman diagnosed with Zika virus in Queensland

There has been another case of the Zika virus confirmed in Queensland.

A pregnant woman who recently returned from overseas was diagnosed in south-east Queensland yesterday.

A statement released by Queensland Health said that the virus was not acquired locally.

Pregnant women or women who are trying to become pregnant are being urged to postpone travel to any area where the Zika virus transmission is ongoing.

Authorities are also urging pregnant women who have recently travelled to an area affected by the virus and suffered an illness they think might be Zika, to see a doctor.

The mosquito-borne virus has been linked to a spike in severe birth defects.

It's reportedly the third case of the disease to be identified in Queensland this year.

Seven mosquitoes capable of harbouring the disease have been found at the international airport in Brisbane in the past year.
