"Get home safe bro?": chilling texts between two alleged killers

Two men charged with the brutal stabbing murder of a 21-year-old man allegedly sent text messages to ‘check up one another’ afterwards, a court has heard.

Ashley Huston, 25, and Brian Krezic, 23, are accused of killing Brodie Smith in the early hours of June 13, 2013.

Smith was found dead in the driveway of a petrol station at Park Ridge, with stab wounds to his heart and skull.

A series of disturbing text messages exchanged by the pair were read out in the Queensland Supreme Court on Wednesday.

“Did you get home safe bro?” Krezic said in the first message after the murder at 2.45am.

“Yeah sweet,” Huston replied.

Krezic then asked his friend if his nerves had ‘calmed down.’

“Nah geez I really wish you never did that” Huston told him.

Krezic replied: “too late for that now bro.”

“Yeah but it’s insane what you did," Huston responded.

“Oh well,” Krezic replied.

The court heard Angela Moutsatsos, who knew both Huston and Smith, had tricked the victim into meeting the pair on the promise they wanted to buy drugs.

Instead they planned to rob Smith.

Moutsatsos, who waited nearby while they met up, said she heard a “loud long scream, which turned into a gurgle" shortly after Smith hopped into the car.

She has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Smith’s body was discovered around 3am (AEST).

Huston allegedly text Krezic saying “C--- has died" a few minutes later.

Their trial will resume on Friday.
