Pregnant widow reveals how she found out about her husband's death in office memo

A then heavily pregnant woman has revealed her heartbreak after she found out about her husband’s death while scrolling through messages at work.

Samantha Dixon, from Berkshire, UK, was browsing through messages on Thames Valley Police’s computer system when she read that her husband and fellow police officer, PC James Dixon, had been killed on duty.

“I thought, ‘no, it won’t be him, he’s invincible’, because you always think that they are,” she told the BBC.

Mr Dixon, who featured on TV series Road Wars, died in a motorcycle accident last December, which also killed an elderly female passenger in the car involved.

Ms Dixon, who works under the name PC Samantha Allen, said there was an element of irony following her work as a family liaison officer after working in roads policing.

“I went into work mode, thinking: ‘Right I have helped lots of people through this — what would I advise them? What would I do to help them now I need to help me?’” she recalled.

She says the overwhelming support from not only friends and family but also the public, carried her through her ordeal.

She received a series of messages of support from fans of Road Wars as well as condolences from Prime Minister Theresa May.

Mr Dixon was laid to rest in January at Saint James the Less Church in Pangbourne attended by hundreds of mourners.

Ms Dixon went on to deliver a healthy baby boy, Parker Cameron James Dixon. Mr Dixon was said to be overjoyed about becoming a father and his wife still harbours hope her husband is still with them.

“Even actually now, to this day sometimes… I hope it’s not true. You do think: ‘Oh, I will wake up in a minute, this is a dream or he’s on holiday or he’s at work or whatever,” she said.
