Video shows plane hitting flock of seagulls at one of world's busiest airports

A plane preparing to touch down at one of Europe’s busiest airports has had a close call after a flock of seagulls, lingering around the tarmac, were sucked into its engine.

The Ryanair plane was arriving at Barcelona-El Prat Airport in May 2018 when it struck the birds.

New footage of the incident shows a number of birds were ingested by the engine of the Boeing 737. The birds are seen striking off the plane’s wing in slow motion.

Miguel Angel, who regularly posts videos from the Barcelona airport, said about 20 gulls were killed during the landing.

Emergency services can be seen rushing to the scene as a precaution despite the plane touching down without issue.

He said the runway was closed for an hour for clean-up, with feathers and birds scattered across the tarmac.
