Woman in serious condition after being bitten by shark in Whitsundays
A 46-year-old woman has arrived at Mackay Base Hospital after being bitten by a shark in the Whitsundays.
The woman is in a serious but stable condition, having suffered “significant injuries” to her leg and torso.
The alarm was raised at 5.15pm on Wednesday afternoon after the woman was bitten while swimming near a yacht in Sawmill Bay.
A RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter was dispatched from the Proserpine area while a local doctor treated the woman at the scene.
She was then winched from a dinghy at Cid Harbour and flown to Mackay with a Queensland Ambulance Service critical care paramedic on board.
It is not yet known what type of shark attacked the woman.
