Toddler orphaned in horror crash 'thinks parents are at work'

A little boy, who was orphaned after a horrific head-on crash in Brisbane, is still waiting for his parents to come home, his heartbroken uncle says.

Sarah Mazi, 33, and Omer Mazi, 41, died when an 18-year-old drove his car onto the wrong side of a road at Moorooka on Sunday night. The teenager also died.

Ms Mazi’s brother, Stephen Furlong, said they still don’t know how they are going to tell their two-year-old son that his parents aren’t at work.

“We still have to actually tell him that mum and dad aren’t coming home… I don’t know how we are going to tell him,” Ms Mazi’s brother, Stephen Furlong, told 7 News.

Witnesses have told police the teenager was driving erratically at high speed before his vehicle ended up on the wrong side of Ipswich Road about 8pm on Sunday.

Police said the teen hit another vehicle carrying five people, spinning it around, before ploughing into the car carrying the Mazis.

The five in the first car that was struck weren’t hurt.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.
