'Chewbacca' set to face court for alleged bashing at Thredbo resort

A snowboarder dressed as Chewbacca has been charged with bashing a ski resort worker at the New South Wales snowfields.

Police say the 51-year-old was dressed as the furry Star Wars character when he allegedly hit a staff member with a snowboard multiple times at the Alpine Way resort in Thredbo 10am on Saturday.

The 55-year-old victim suffered “facial and dental injuries”.

“Chewbacca” was arrested and charged with using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence.

On social media the man said a staff member at Thredbo had banned him from riding in the costume so he “dropped him”.

“He lost consciousness and some teeth,” the man said.

“[I] coped (sic) a headbutt to the bridge of the nose and have been having some difficulty with balance.”

“Chewie” said he has been instructed not to have any further contact with Thredbo staff.
