Father tells of shock after man allegedly 'tried to pick up son' at park
A father has told of his shock after a man allegedly approached and tried to pick up his young son from a Darling Harbour park.
Police are searching for a man suspected of trying to grab the 19-month-old from the playground at Tumbalong Park at about 1pm Tuesday.
The boy's father alleges an unknown man approached his son and tried to pick him up.
The father then intervened when it’s alleged the man left with two younger men.
The man is described as 65-years-old, of medium height with a grey beard and of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance.
While police claim the man’s intentions could have been entirely innocent, they still want to speak with him to be sure.
“We’d love to speak to the gentleman that hasn’t been identified at this stage,” Sydney City Inspector Kerrie Brill said.
“If he could come forward so we can clear up what his involvement was with the action.”
The incident follows several attempted child abductions in Leichhardt, Glebe and Liverpool.
A young girl was approached by a knife-wielding man in what was the fourth child abduction attempt within a week, earlier this month.
The 11-year-old was approached outside a Summer Hill property with the man pulling a weapon from his coat.
She reported the incident to her school.
