Elderly man on mobility scooter dies after being hit by train north of Sydney

An elderly man has died after being struck by a train at the Woy Woy rail crossing north of Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 11:00am Monday after a northbound train hit the man on a mobility scooter.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He found himself in the middle of the crossing, as a result the elderly gentleman has suffered fatal injuries,” a NSW Police officer told reporters.

The man has yet to be formally identified.

All north and southbound trains were suspended for more than four hours following the incident, but recommenced shortly before 4:00pm Monday.
