Teen 'headlocked and dragged' by man during afternoon walk

Haylee Dick's routine afternoon walk nearly ended in disaster when she was dragged from the footpath into nearby bushland.

With headphones in the 19-year-old walked along a Central Coast reserve on Tuesday evening when she suddenly felt someone behind her.

“He put one of his hands over my mouth and another hand in, like a headlock and around my neck he like put all his weight on me and pulling me towards the ground,” the terrified victim recalled.

“He obviously had intentions of doing something.”

When she managed to break free, she confronted her attacker.

“I just stood back and I looked at him and I said ‘what are you doing?’ Like I was just in shock.”

The event took place on a popular walking path at Buff Point, not far from homes, however there were no security cameras to capture the attack.

Ms Dick described the attacker as about 168cm tall, in his late teens and last seen in a black t-shirt, black or grey board shorts, skate shoes and a black cap.

“Look, it’s a serious crime we’re still following it up and investigating it. It does concern us,” Tuggerah Lakes Police Detective Chief Inspector David Waddell said.

Ms Dick said she came forward with her story because she didn’t want other young women going through a similar ordeal or worse.

“You don’t think it can happen to you, but it does.”
