'Drunk' driver sends pedestrian flying down Sydney's Pitt Street

A pedestrian has been thrown into the air after being hit by an allegedly drunk driver.

The accident occurred just before a police officer was caught on camera giving a verbal dressing down to the woman charged with causing the accident.

The exchange quickly went viral.

The frightening incident was also caught on video. There is now concern for the man’s welfare after he left the area with a head injury before paramedics arrived.

The crash brought bustling Pitt Street to a halt just after midnight on Monday.

A drunk 24-year-old woman driving a Mercedes allegedly hit the man.

She received a stern dressing down from police as she was bundled into a police van

Witnesses feared the worst as the victim lay bleeding an unresponsive for several minutes.

Seven minutes later bystanders and police helped him to a footpath, his face still bloodied, but appearing OK.

The man even casually lit up a cigarette before walking away like nothing had happened.

He left the scene fearing he would have to pay for an ambulance.

The alleged driver struggled at ever stop, almost crashing as she pulled the luxury 4WD over.

She was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.

The near tragedy hit a nerve with the arresting officer who angrily told the woman off.

“Because of your actions and your drunkenness you’ve nearly killed someone tonight,” he said slamming the door of the van.

City Police Duty Officer Sergeant Dave Parker was not about to apologise for the officer’s words the next day.

“He was very frustrated as are all police when people display this disregard for other road users,” Sergeant Parker said.

“There are concerns the mystery pedestrian may have more serious head injuries than he realises.

“Police are appealing for him to come forward and seek medical attention.”
