Two people have been killed in a tragic 24-hour period on Sydney’s roads.

A 50-year-old male cyclist lost his life following a collision with a garbage truck on New South Head Road, Rose Bay at 7.45am on Thursday.

The accident brought the busy road to a halt as emergency services rushed to the scene at the intersection with Kent Road.

Bobby Wecala, who works at the Sugar and Spoon Cafe on New South Head Road, Rose Bay said the accident took place a one-minute walk down from the establishment.

He told Yahoo7: “People have been coming in all morning talking about the accident.

“It’s very sad, a man died.

“The road is still very busy a few hours later and the police are still at the scene.”

A spokesman for NSW Police said: “The driver of the truck has been taken for mandatory blood and urine tests.”

Motorists are being advised to allow extra travel time through the area.

The news came just hours after an 82-year-old woman died following a three-car collision in St Marys on Wednesday.

Police say the woman was a passenger in a Holden Commodore that crashed into another car before both collided with a third vehicle at an intersection in St Marys at about 5.20pm.

Motorists traveling through Turramurra on the Pacific Highway experienced long delays on Thursday morning after a car and motorcycle collided at Rohini Street.

Traffic was queuing for approximately 9km, back on to the M1 Pacific Motorway.

Buses in the area were delayed up to 45 minutes and some buses did not stop at Turramurra Station.

A car also crashed into a house in Balmoral St at Newton Rd, Blacktown which caused delays on Thursday morning.

This metal fencing in the road at Lane Cove also caused delays.
