Mystery surrounds death of woman after body found floating near boat ramp

Mystery surrounds the death of a woman whose body was found floating in water on the NSW Central Coast.

A crime scene was established about 150 metres north of the Terrigal Haven boat ramp on Tuesday after the 56-year-old’s body was found by fishermen at 7.10am.

NSW Police identified the woman as Devorah Howard on Wednesday.

Ms Howard's dog, a Doberman, alerted a personal trainer in a nearby park that something was wrong and he contacted authorities.

According to the Express Advocate, she was found with marks around her neck.

Police said on Wednesday it was not yet determined if her death was suspicious.

Neighbours revealed they regularly saw Ms Howard walking her dog on the beach from her beachside Wamberal home.

Brisbane Water Crime Manager Detective Chief Inspector Steve Laksa said police were hoping to speak with anyone who might have seen Ms Howard on Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

“We are following a number of lines of inquiry in relation to her last known movements,” Detective Chief inspector Laksa said.

“Information from the public is crucial as it will hopefully support the results of a forthcoming post-mortem examination.”

Cryptic Facebook message weeks before death

Her Facebook profile is filled with images of herself with her dog, Harvey.

On June 26, she left a cryptic Facebook message which prompted comments from friends hoping she was okay.

“When you lose all trust in someone you have nothing else to lose,” she wrote.

Police confirmed a report will be prepared for the coroner while appealing for anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
