A man has lost his licence after he was caught driving with three children in the back of his car who weren’t restrained properly.

NSW Police’s Traffic and Highway Patrol officers pulled over the 35-year-old man in the Newcastle suburb of Elermore Vale on Monday for a random breath test.

Inside the rear of the vehicle, officers discovered three children aged 1, 3 and 4 without the required child seats.

The three children weren't restrained appropriately in the back of the vehicle.

The 1-year-old child was sat in a pram bassinet.

The driver was slapped with a fine of $1032 and 18 demerit points – double the nine points the three offences normally attract due to the ongoing Christmas and New Year double demerits period.

Police took to Facebook to share an image of the three children sat in the rear of the car.

“This is just disgusting,” one person declared.

In April, one driver in Sydney received 33 demerit points after two children were found unrestrained in his vehicle.
