Frog found in Coles salad days after Woolworths shopper's disturbing discovery

The frog was difficult to identify in the bag among the leafy greens.

For the second time in as many weeks an Aussie shopper has found a frog inside a product bought at the supermarket.

The frog — which was believed to have been dead when discovered — was found inside a salad mix after the customer in Melbourne had already made the purchase at their local Coles store. The shopper posted an image online, showing how well camouflaged it was in among the leafy greens.

Left, the frog is clearly visible outside of the Coles salad mix bag. Right, it is harder to spot among the leafy greens inside the bag.

It comes after Woolworths recently stressed its produce undergoes "rigorous" quality checks after another frog was found inside a cooked pesto pasta sauce, with the customer just about to sit down to eat their meal before making the "sickening" discovery.

Shoppers respond to 'disconcerting' discovery

The customer didn't share much emotion in their online post but plenty of other shoppers responded in a big way, sharing how "disconcerting" the find was while some voiced concern about the frog's welfare. However, others found the situation humorous.

"It's a French salad," one joked, while another said it was a "value pack" with extra protein included.

"Suitable for non-vegetarians," a third wrote.

Coles reassure shoppers it prioritises 'quality'

In light of the incident, Coles have reassured that their quality control measures are extensive and confirmed they have escalated the issue in attempt to understand what happened.

“Coles takes the quality of all our products seriously and are following up with our supplier to investigate the matter," a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo News.

"As always, we encourage customers to return any item they’re not happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement.”

Yahoo News Australia understands the shopper had already reached out to Coles regarding the frog find.
