Coles customer ridiculed after 'concerning' chicken drumstick discovery

An Aussie man rushed online to find out what was wrong with his chicken but was met with immediate backlash.

An Aussie supermarket shopper has been slammed online after posting a video of his Coles chicken drumsticks showing what he feared were parasites poking out the end.

After buying a packet of drumsticks for his dogs, the man was horrified to find what he thought looked to be "moving" organisms infesting one of the legs. After not finding any answers while searching online, he posted a video on Reddit hoping to get an explanation.

"WTF is wrong here? We’re taking them back to get a refund no matter what, but what are these and how bad could it have been?" he shared, later adding he had suspected they were "concerning" parasites.

'Parasites' on chicken have a less sinister explanation

Though the confused customer had sworn he'd seen them "flop to the other side on their own", Reddit users were immediately able to identify the strange black "parasites" as chicken feathers that were missed when it was plucked.

"Looks like feathers not fully plucked," a person replied immediately.

"There are often leftover feather stubs on skin-on chickens," another explained.

Question causes intense backlash

The user may have expected similar confusion from people online, or even some helpful ideas, but instead he was met with frustrated disbelief from almost everyone.

"Have you never seen a chicken before?" one person asked.

"I think I speak for everyone by saying that because you couldn’t identify partially plucked feathers you are daft" commented another.

"Seriously, if you can't handle the fact that chickens once had feathers and you're only comfortable seeing 'meat' as sold to you by big corporations you need to do some research," shared a third person.

Man stands by his confusion

Even though he's received a lot of angry comments, the original poster told users he intended to leave his post up so that others in the same boat can find out what unplucked chicken feathers look like, as there is little information online.

"Despite the dunking I will not be deleting this post. Maybe someone else freaking out seven years from now will see this, call me an idiot with a laugh, and calm down and pluck out the damn things," he said.
