Neighbours on edge after doctor killed in 'terrifying' home invasion

Ash Gordon, 33, chased the alleged thieves from his home before being fatally attacked.

The death of a young Melbourne doctor who was killed following a home invasion has shocked family and friends, including neighbours who say the ordeal was "confronting" and "terrifying".

Ash Gordon, 33, was allegedly stabbed and rammed with a car by a group of intruders who reportedly raided his Doncaster home in the city's east on Saturday. He was found by police on Eildon Street, less than a kilometre from his home, at about 5.30am. He died at the scene.

It's understood Gordon was chasing away thieves who broke into his home before he was fatally attacked. Shoes and laptops were reportedly stolen from his Sargent Street apartment. No arrests have been made at this stage and the investigation remains ongoing, Victoria Police confirmed.

Several neighbours reportedly called the police after hearing a loud "bang" in the early hours of Saturday. One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said the ordeal was "confronting" for everyone who lived in the street

"It's pretty terrifying, to be honest. You don't really think that's happening five metres away from your door, so it's a little bit confronting," they told the Herald Sun. "Another neighbour told 9 News Gordon was "nice as".

Tributes flow for 'compassionate' and 'generous' doctor

Tributes are flowing on social media for the beloved skin specialist being remembered as a "true gentleman".

"Intelligent, honest, compassionate, friendly, generous… I don't think there is one positive characteristic I could leave out," one note written by friend Daniel Fahry read. "Gone way too soon, brother. I truly thank you for all that you helped me with."

"Ash was one of the nicest, most humble guys you could meet. No matter your differences in life he was always up for a chat and meeting new people," close friend Jovanne Pieterse told Herald Sun. "He had this energy that would light up any room, and was dearly loved by so many."

"Another life taken way to soon. You were definitely such an inspiration to others, you worked so hard to get where you are! Life’s just not fair," another wrote on Facebook.

In November, an elderly couple living on the same street were reportedly robbed. And on Wednesday, a woman living next door to Gordon allegedly had her car stolen. Residents also reported hearing youths partying in the street before the home invasion. It's understood police do not believe the incidents are linked.
