Mum overwhelmed by global support over manager's abusive texts

The mother of a seriously ill teen, whose text message exchange with her boss went viral, has thanked the public for their overwhelming support.

Crystal Fisher, from the US state of Michigan, messaged her manager 48 hours before her shift to let her know that her son was on life support, and that she would not be attending work until he was starting to get better.

But the manager at Folk Oil, a US petrol station, was unsympathetic, telling the exhausted mum that If she didn’t show up for work that she would be out of a job.

“If you can’t come to work, that’s you quitting,” the manager identified as ‘Dawn’ wrote.

“There’s no reason you can’t work and I will not tolerate drama.”

Ms Fisher, whose son is suffering from suspected cellulitis sepsis, responded to the message by insisting her son was her first priority.

“Ok this is not a eye doctors app or a dentist app this is my child’s life that we r talking about, he is on life support!!!” she wrote.

The post has received more than 82,000 shares on Facebook, with more than 20,000 people offering messages of support.

“I did not expect it to take off like this,” the mother told local media outlet KDVR of the support she had received online.

“But when I have people in my inbox [saying]:‘Hey I’m from Australia, praying for you’, you know, I’m just overwhelmed.”

Since the exchange went viral, Folk Oil confirmed that the manager had been fired, and encouraged Ms Fisher to take as much time off as she needed.

She is now able to fully focus on her son, who remains in a critical condition.

“My concern is when my son does wake up and when he does open his eyes, he sees mummy there,” she said.
