Man charged after three month-old baby girl suffers significant head injuries

A man has been charged over the alleged abuse and neglect of a baby who was hospitalised with significant injuries in western Sydney.

A three-month-old girl was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital on December 30 last year with significant injuries to her head, throat and leg, NSW Police say.

She has since been released and alternative care arrangements have been made.

Detectives established a strike force to investigate how the baby was injured and arrested a 22-year-old man at a Silverwater facility on Monday.

Police allege the man injured the baby at a Mt Druitt home between October and December 2018 and did not seek medical attention.

The man allegedly also assaulted a 27-year-old woman and held her against her will at the home in June 2019.

The man was charged with eight offences including three counts of causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent, kidnapping with the intention to commit serious indictable offence and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court on Tuesday.
