Motorbike rider dies in horrific Sydney crash caught on dashcam
The busy road in Sydney's north was closed while several ambulance crews attended the scene.
Dashcam footage has captured the fatal collision between a motorbike and SUV at a busy Sydney intersection on Wednesday.
The collision occurred on Epping Road in Macquarie Park in the city's north just after midday. It appears the motorbike rider — a man in his 30s — intended to travel straight through the traffic lights while the silver Toyota SUV coming from the opposite direction was making a right turn. The two vehicles collided and the rider was knocked from his bike and left lying on the road.
NSW Ambulance confirmed to Yahoo News they deployed multiple crews to attend the scene and rushed the rider to Royal North Shore hospital with serious injuries where he later died. The 20-year old SUV driver was treated by paramedics and attended hospital but was released.
SUV driver charged with dangerous driving
A witness to the crash who shared video of the collision on social media said both the motorbike rider and SUV rider entered the intersection on Epping Road as the lights were changing.
Officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command established a crime scene and with the assistance of specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Upon his release from hospital, the SUV driver was taken to Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death. He was granted "conditional" bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court on March 12.
