Insane footage of Melbourne hit and run

Man seriously injured in carjacking
A man has been seriously injured when his car was stolen.

The moment a man was struck down and severely injured by his own car as he attempted to stop it from being stolen has been caught on video.

Victoria Police say the victim, a man in his 30s, was parked outside restaurants and bars in Melbourne’s busy Hardware Lane just after 3pm on Thursday when a man attempted to steal the car.

Footage shows a man in a blue jacket riding a scooter and inspecting the red Ford 4WD.

The man in the blue jacket then folds up his scooter and puts it into the car before jumping into the driver’s seat.

The victim and a woman, who are packing boxes into a trolley in front of the car, notice the man and attempt to stop him from driving away, but the thief continues driving as the victim clings onto the front of the car.

Witnesses try to help the victim, but the car continues driving forward, with the victim being dragged along the front.

The victim was then rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations remain ongoing; however, a statement from Victoria Police released on Friday morning said investigators believed the incident was not a carjacking but the “theft of motor vehicle and subsequent hit and run”.

The alleged offender remains at large.

“The victim and other bystanders attempted to stop the offender from driving off, but they were unsuccessful,” the updated statement said.

“The victim, a 30-year-old Melbourne man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
