Massive steel gate crashes down on car full of tourists
A heavy steel gate at a ritzy Gold Coast apartment tower came crashing down on a BMW full of unwitting tourists exiting the driveway.
At the Hilton hotel in Surfers Paradise, four guests from Hong Kong were inside the luxury SUV waiting to leave the complex on Friday morning, when the gate suddenly dropped.
The driver and passengers told 7 News the gate had been up for the entirety of their stay, so they didn’t see it coming and couldn’t escape in time.

The tourists were on their way to the airport to fly to Sydney when it all came crashing down.
They ended up catching a cab instead, leaving everyone else to clean up the mess.
It took three tradesmen, a tow truck, and forklift more than two hours to release the vehicle from the gate.
