Man 'screaming on the inside' after massive Lotto win

A South Australian man has confessed to “screaming on the inside” after discovering he had become an overnight Lotto millionaire.

The man’s entry also won several division prizes, meaning he collected a total of $1,040,349.70 in Monday night’s X Lotto draw.

“I went to the outlet and checked it on the self-service ticket checker and when I heard the ‘ding-ding’ of the machine I knew I had a winner,” the Port Adelaide man said.

“The lady at the outlet said she couldn’t pay it out and so I grabbed the winning numbers and checked them in the car.

“I knew it was something when they couldn’t pay me out.”

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he’d had a “few close calls” in recent years, including wins of “a few thousand.”

“I’m screaming on the inside, you know that don’t you?,” the man told an SA Lotteries official who had called to confirm the win.

The newly-minted millionaire said he would pay off some bills, pay off his family’s mortgage and buy a new motorhome.

“Once the mortgages are paid off, you’re the king,” he said.

“You can go to work happier because of the money you make you can spend on yourself instead of paying it to the bank.”

The regular Lotto player said he had been using the same numbers for several weeks and had only meant to mark the numbers for Saturday night’s draw.

“I went in on Friday and was just going to play the numbers for Saturday but I had accidentally marked the coupon for Monday, so I thought ‘I’ll just do both days, what the hell’,” he said.

The shop where the ticket was sold, the Port Adelaide Papershop, has sold 12 division one or top prize- winning entries in nine years, four of which have been won in the last year alone.

Two other entrants became millionaires by winning division one, including a Victorian and another player from New South Wales.
