Man 'found secretly living in attic' above 14-year-old girl's bedroom

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after it was discovered he was allegedly living in the roof of a family home and visiting a teenage girl each night, while her parents slept.

Police were called to the Mt. Juliet home in Tennessee on June 2 (local time) when a woman reportedly came home to to find Matthew Casto in her house.

When she screamed at him to leave, the woman told police Casto ran to her 14-year-old daughter’s bedroom, which was attached to the attic via a wardrobe door.

Mt. Juliet police had to use force when arresting the man, who they said refused to leave the residence.

The girl and Casto were known to each other and local police had previously warned Casto to stay away from the teenager and stop contact with her after she reportedly ran away to see him on May 29.

Local media outlet Scoop Nashville reported that Casto had been staying in the attic for “some time” and would enter the bedroom at night once the girl’s mother was asleep.

Police did not comment on the nature of Casto’s relationship with the minor.

The man was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal trespass at Wilson County Jail.

He was released on bail and will appear in court.

The teenage girl is said to be safe and doing well.
