Man discovers two-metre python in his couch while searching for keys

Police assisted with an unusual case after receiving a call to remove a python from a man’s couch.

Rose Hill Police Department in the US state of Kansas called the Butler County Fire District #3 for assistance last Tuesday after they received a 911 call from a man who reported a large snake hiding in his couch.

“I was looking for my keys, so I figured they slipped through the couch cushions,” the 911 caller said on the phone when he called for help, according to KWCH12.

“And so when I moved them, there’s a giant brown snake.”

The dispatcher simply responded with “eww”.

Fortunately, BCFD#3 arrived at the scene with the department’s “resident snake charmer”, Deputy Fire Chief Linot.

“I messed with him [the snake] a little bit and I took my gloves off and you could handle him real easy,” Chief Linot said, adding the snake was “gentle” and “docile”.

It is not clear to the homeowners or the police how the snake got into the house and between the couch cushions.

The snake ended up being a red-tailed boa constrictor and authorities estimated the snake to be about two metres long.

If no one comes forward to claim the snake, it will be donated to a local educational program.
