Man dies after caravan is obliterated in horrific crash


A man is dead and a woman in hospital after a 4WD towing a caravan jackknifed on the Hume Highway near Campbelltown in NSW.

The woman is at Liverpool Hospital with non life-threatening injuries but the male driver of the vehicle was killed.

The crash, which happened around 3.15pm on Thursday afternoon, has been described by emergency crews as horrific.

The 4WD was travelling south on the Hume Highway at Woodbine when the caravan swung back on the car, causing it to roll several times.

“There was debris spread all over the road, and with the car still on its roof, it did make extrication of the female passenger quite difficult,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Audie Jousif said.

The crash caused traffic chaos during the afternoon peak with a north and southbound lane blocked.

Drivers were being urged to avoid the area.
