A surfer has been attacked by a shark on the NSW south coast.

The surfer, a 24-year-old Sydney man, was bitten on the leg while participating in a surf lesson at Seven Mile Beach, Shoalhaven on Saturday, about midday.

He’s been airlifted to St George Hospital to be treated for infection control to puncture injuries to his hand and calf.

The beach is currently closed while police liaise with Surf Life Saving and the Department of Primary Industries.

His injuries are non-life threatening, police said.
