A woman has been stabbed to death and a young boy wounded in the remote town of Kowanyama on Queensland's Cape York Peninsula.
Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who was known to the woman, 27, and the boy, who is seven.
It's understood the woman who died was the child's mother.
They were attacked about 1am at two properties not far from each other.
The woman suffered stab wounds to her neck and torso. She was taken to a local health clinic but could not be saved.
Police found the injured boy at a second property nearby.
Officers won't say if he was also stabbed, but his injuries are not considered life threatening.
He's been taken to Cairns for further treatment.
Crime scenes have been established at both properties.
Officers were called after receiving reports of a disturbance.
Police are expected to address the media in Cairns at 1pm on Thursday.
