Man charged after 'calling police to report cannabis thefts'

When a Northern Territory man discovered people were stealing from him, he did what most victims usually do and called the police.

But that call to Tennant Creek police resulted in charges being laid against him.

More than 80 cannabis plants were found on the 60-year-old’s property after he called to report people had been stealing them, according to police.

A search warrant was executed at the property and 82 cannabis plants, ranging from seedlings to two metres tall, were allegedly found along with about 250 grams of cannabis plant material inside the residence.

“Police were alerted to the presence of the plants when the male called them to report that a number of individuals had been stealing them,” a police statement read.

The man will appear in court on charges of cultivating a commercial quality of cannabis, supplying a dangerous drug and possessing a traffickable amount of cannabis.
