Malcolm Turnbull wins leadership vote, will remain PM

Malcolm Turnbull has won the Liberal Party leadership vote 48-35 at a party room meeting in Canberra, Party Whip Nola Marino has confirmed.

The Liberal leadership has earlier been declared vacant by Turnbull with a vote to be held on party leader.

Peter Dutton challenged Turnbull and has stepped down from his role as Home Affairs Minister in cabinet after losing the vote.

More to come.
