A young driver’s ‘disgraceful’ act of road rage has sparked widespread calls for a lifetime ban after he endangered his rivals’ lives in a shocking meltdown.

Luca Corberi is the talk of the motorsport world (for all the wrong reasons) after a crazy tantrum at the FIA Karting World Championships.

The Italian driver was in action at the Lonato circuit on Sunday (a circuit owned by his father) when he lost his mind after being forced off the track.

Corberi was forced to retire during the race after making contact with a fellow driver - believed to be Paolo Ippolito.

But instead of walking back to the garages, the 23-year-old stalked his rival driver on the side of the track and hurled his bumper at the other car as it made its way back past him.

Luckily for everyone involved the bumper didn’t connect, but fans and commentators were left in a state of shock.

“What is Luca Corberi playing at?” a TV commentator said.

“Oh Luca Corberi, what on earth is he doing. I’m sorry, that is absolutely unacceptable.

“Luca Corberi makes himself public enemy number one.

“He’s going to completely negate the officials. They’re going to walk across the circuit. Luca Corberi is walking in and he should be waiting at the marshal post.

“I would guess that it wasn’t an engine seizure. He clearly feels that somebody has done him wrong, in some way.”

Motorsport world calls for life bans

However a furious Corberi wasn’t finished there, attacking Corberi in the pits after the race.

Video emerged on social media that also appears to show Corberi’s father join the melee.

“The man with the black hoodie also assaulting the driver is Corberi’s father, owner of the track,” Motorsport journalist Aurora Dell’Agli wrote on social media.

“The FIA should never race in Lonato again.”

Former F1 world champion Jenson Button was among those to call for life bans to be dished out.

“Luca Corberi has just destroyed any chance he had at a racing career after his disgusting behaviour today at the FIA Karting World champs,” the 2009 world champion wrote.

“His father owns the circuit and is seen power driving the guy into a wall, life ban for both of these idiots please.”

Former F1 driver Robert Doornbos agreed, tweeting: “FIA Karting Championships today in Italy. What is this guy doing. Should be banned from racing for life.”

And they weren’t alone.
