Lotto winner's 27-year commitment pays off with $1 million windfall
A Sydney father playing with the same Lotto numbers for the last 27 years has turned his bad luck around after scoring $1 million this week.
The fortunate man held one of four division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4191, drawn on Wednesday June 15.
The man discovered his windfall in the early hours of the morning while holidaying overseas.
“Wow, I don’t know what to say,” he said when speaking with an official from The Lott.
“It’s been a tough five years full of bad luck. I’m crying.”
The newly-made millionaire explained he never thought he'd be so lucky.
“I’ve been playing since ’95 and I never thought this day would come. My wife and I chose our own numbers 27 years ago and we’ve stuck with them ever since,” he explained.
'We can turn our bad luck around'
The man revealed that the lucky numbers he played for over two decades were close to his heart.
“One of the numbers is my birthday and the other is the number of my favourite racing car – they’re quirky numbers,” he laughed.
“This will really help my family and I. Maybe we can turn our bad luck around. It’s life-changing.”
When asked how he planned to spend his fortune, the man said he would treat himself to a new car.
“We’ve been driving around an older car for a long time, and I know the first thing I’ll do is visit the car yard for an upgrade – I’d love more leg room,” he laughed.
“I’m going to go purchase a bouquet of flowers, sit down and embrace this moment.”
The winning numbers in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4191 were 24, 18, 4, 23, 17 and 15, while the supplementary numbers were 3 and 36.
More chances to win
Across Australia, there were four division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday Lotto – two in Queensland and one each in New South Wales and Western Australia.
There are more chances to win big with Tuesday’s Oz Lotto offering $10 million, while next week’s Powerball has $40 million up for grabs.
The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $11.09 million for draw 1577 and the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $15.87 million for draw 10593.
