Little boy's terrifying Triple-0 call after mum collapses

A young triple zero hero has been reunited with the firefighters who helped save his mum’s life.

Spencer Halfpenny knew just what to do in an emergency, thanks to skills learned during a fire education workshop.

The seven-year-old called triple 0 after his mum, who has diabetes, lost consciousness.

“I opened up Mum’s phone and then I tried her password, but it didn’t work,” Spencer said.

“And then I remembered that she changed her password so I pressed emergency call and I dialled zero, zero, zero.”

In the terrifying call, Spencer can be heard telling the operator his mother isn’t breathing and to hurry.

Spencer’s sister was proud of his feat.

“Spencer saved mummy’s life,” Jasmine Halfpenny, Spencer’s sister said.

He was reunited with the firefighters who rushed to his Fairfield home and was presented with a very special gift on Saturday.

“I think some are a little jealous,” Spencer said when asked what his school mates thought.

“Because I get to be on TV right now.”

This year marks the 25th year of fire education in schools and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade is hoping Spencer’s story will encourage other kids to get involved.
