Several people reportedly injured in violent stabbing at NSW jail

Police are responding to an incident at a jail in the NSW Blue Mountains where up to a dozen inmates have reportedly been injured in a stabbing incident.

A 36-year-old man Lithgow Correctional Centre inmate sustained a stab wound to the chest and is being airlifted to Westmead Hospital, Nine News reported.

The man was believed to have been placed in an induced coma due to head trauma, according to 7News.

Yahoo News Australia understands at least two patients were taken to hospital.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a man being stabbing at the centre at 10.50am on Sunday, but arrived to find at least 12 people requiring treatment, according to Nine News.

One man was reportedly taken by road to Bathurst Hospital and another to Nepean Hospital.

Others were understood to be receiving treatment at the prison’s medical centre.
