Jose Mourinho makes Manchester United 'final whistle' jibe after Tottenham VAR penalty decision
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has aimed a thinly-veiled jibe at former club Manchester United following their controversial victory against Brighton.
The Portuguese was spotted walking down the tunnel two minutes before the final whistle was blown as Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle.
Mourinho's reaction came after the visitors were awarded a dubious late penalty for handball against Eric Dier and in the 96th minute, Callum Wilson snatched a point for the Magpies.
The 57-year-old referenced a decision in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Brighton where a penalty was awarded by VAR after the final whistle had been blown.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had joked at the Portuguese's expense about Brighton's goalposts after Mourinho had complained about Shkendija's goal frames in midweek.
“First of all, we have to be thankful that Jose isn’t here to measure the goalposts, they might have been smaller goals,” Solskjaer told BT Sport.
Perhaps irked by the Norwegian's comments, Mourinho snapped back when asked about the red card shown to his assistant Santos at the final whistle by referee Peter Bankes, saying he knew "it's possible for something important to happen" after the final whistle - suggesting the same rules did not apply for his former employers.
"The only thing that I know is that I'm more experienced than [Nuno] and I left down the tunnel when the referee blew the whistle for the last time," he said.
"I know that in some matches at some clubs, even after the last whistle, it's possible for something important to happen.
"But for us I knew that after the last whistle it was over for us and I left for the dressing room. So Nuno [was] a little bit more naive than me and he stayed there."
